The works of Lucas Kaiser are, to exaggerate a little, the antithesis of Adolf Loos’ defining statement of “Ornament is a crime”. The author proves in his drawings that the real crime in this case would be to suppress his own artistic essence. The figures, which are themselves ornaments in their own certain way, are complemented by ornamental variation and clever citation, which, in conjunction with the spacelessness and timelessness of the image map, create the environment of “soft” surrealism.
